Bye Bye Cutler

Posted by Chance on April 3, 2009

Quarterback Jay Cutler is being traded from the Denver Broncos to the Chicago Bears.

As a Denver fan, I’m sad to see him go.  Even though I have not lived in Colorado long, I realize that John Elway casts a long shadow.  I actually think Cutler was the one that could step out of it.  At the very least, it looked like he could be a franchise quarterback.

At the same time, however, he did not display a lot of maturity through this deal.  Now, I realize fans, including myself, may not know the whole story.  But how it appears is that the coach looked at trading Cutler for another quarterback.  Cutler got his pride hurt, and therefore didn’t want to be part of the team.  While Cutler had the potential to be a franchise quarterback, he wasn’t quite there yet, and I don’t blame the coach for looking at any and every option to determine what is in the best interest of the team.  But again, maybe the coach’s subsequent actions, whether it be lack of effort to contact Cutler or whatever, made Cutler feel like he wasn’t wanted.  If that’s the case, I don’t blame him.  If it was because the coach dared to think of trading him, then he is being a baby.
